Work With Me

My work takes a multidisciplinary approach with Horses, combining the sciences of movement, behaviour, trauma, and somatics with feminist and decolonial theory to create a praxis that is transformative to the core.

“Remy is one of the most competent Horse people I know.”

Movement Work and Consulting

Equine body workers are similar to human massage therapists or chiropractors, providing manual therapy (touch) to influence the Horse's system. Movement work is more similar to physiotherapy, working to support health through a movement-based approach. As a movement worker, I use the most up-to-date science to help Horses become more robust and capable through techniques such as environmental design, modern movement training, and consent-based bodywork. I believe in the beauty of somadiversity, and I do not advocate for imposing ideals of 'correctness' onto Alive beings. Instead, I work-with bodies to explore the parameters of what's possible within their unique constraints.

In combination with my movement work and consulting, I also offer support and guidance in planning and managing track systems and habitats that afford Horses diverse movement opportunities and enriching lives.

"Remy is an incredibly skilled and knowledgeable coach, who considers every element of the Horse’s life to holistically support them to thrive. He is kind, clear and detailed in his communication, making it easy and enjoyable to learn from him. He has a wealth of understanding across many topics, and implements up-to-date scientific research in his work. I cannot recommend him enough!"

Robin was a shy 11-year-old OTTB who needed support to become more confident and expansive in his body. When we first met he was so resistant to movement we struggled to lead even a few metres. In our time together, we developed a relationship built on consent and trust, where he had the option to choose to work with me or not. We also had a lot of support from his Herd by working in the field alongside his friends. Little by little, he began to open up and explore-with me on a play-based journey of discovery. Through this, Robin was able to rediscover the joy of movement and unlock ranges of experience that were inaccessible to him before.

"Remy was great with my OTTB gelding who needed help learning to play and move. My gelding definitely came out of his shell and became a more playful horse when he spent time with Remy."

Behaviour Consulting

As an equine behaviour consultant, I work to discover and address the root causes of behaviour and find ethical and practical solutions to a wide variety of behaviour concerns.

IAABC Membership badge.

I am a member of the International Association of Animal Behaviour Consultants (IAABC), and use mostly positive reinforcement (+R) in alignment with LIMA principles and the Humane Hierarchy.

Phin was a Horse who struggled with fear-based aggression, lashing out when he was anxious, frustrated, or fearful. He had become extremely touch sensitive and dangerous to groom or handle. By addressing his health concerns, avoiding punishment, and using positive training methods, we were able to help him work through his fear while keeping him and others safe in the process.

Cooperative Care

Through Cooperative Care training, we are able to teach Horses to be an active participant in their own care, for procedures such as needles, oral syringes, hoof handling, grooming, and more. By giving the Horse a choice, we can greatly reduce the amount of fear, anxiety, and stress they experience in difficult moments, and work through previous traumas in an emotionally and physically safe way.
